Payment restrictions in Greece

The recent developments in Greece and the capital control enforced on Greek banking institutions have caused a large degree of volatility in the Greek financial markets. The directives from the Greek government and other international payments institutions had and continue to have a direct impact on online payments. At Skrill, we are monitoring the situation closely. Here you will find up-to-date information regarding the payment restrictions in Greece and how they affect your transactions in the Skrill payment system.

Card payments

Deposits to Skrill and payments to merchant websites using a credit/debit card are possible at present. However, the transaction can be still stopped by your bank.

Bank wire deposits

Funding your Skrill account via bank transfer should be possible in most cases, however, we recommend that you to contact your bank before you instruct the deposit to ensure there are no restrictions on your bank’s side.

Paysafecard deposits

Paysafecard deposits are temporarily unavailable for customers based in Greece.

Bank wire withdrawals

Withdrawing funds from your Skrill account to your bank account in Greece is not restricted in any way and you can instruct a withdrawal from Skrill to your bank account at any time. However, once the funds are received in your bank account, you may not be able to withdraw them in view of the applicable legislation and local ATM restrictions in place.

Credit card withdrawals

Skrill is unable to process payouts to your credit card at the moment. You can withdraw funds from your Skrill account via bank withdrawal or use your Skrill Prepaid MasterCard®

Skrill Prepaid Mastercard®*

If you are a Skrill Prepaid Mastercard® cardholder, you can continue to freely access your Skrill balance using this card at any ATM or merchant location wherever you see the Mastercard Acceptance Mark, however, as with Bank wire withdrawals above, local ATM restrictions may apply and additional local banking restrictions may apply. Withdrawals are also subject to sufficient funds being available in the ATM to cover the withdrawal amount.
