How can I send money using Send Direct?

What information do I need to use the Send Direct service? 

You can send direct to a bank account or a mobile in a supported country. You will need

  • The recipient’s name; 
  • The recipient’s bank details or mobile number (when you send money to a mobile wallet).

Sometimes we may require additional information about the recipient, such as a copy of the recipient’s ID document. This is rare but if applicable, you will receive an email guiding you through this process.

What currency does the money arrive in?

You can choose from various sending and receiving currencies. To avoid additional exchange-rate fees from banks, you can:

  • Send money in the same currency as your own payment method;
  • Send money to an account using the same local currency.

Is it secure to send funds using Send Direct?

Skrill is developed with the same demands on security and performance as the sites used for bank services and share trading. Your account login, personal details and all money transactions are secured using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology with high security 128-bit encryption, certified by VeriSign.

When you send a payment using Skrill, the recipient will not receive sensitive financial information such as your credit/debit card or bank account number.

What fees do you charge?

We charge a processing fee when using Send Direct. Possible additional fees include: 

  1. Mastercard/ Visa/ Klarna/ Rapid Transfer funding fee if you fund your transfer this way. 
  2. A separate exchange-rate fee from your bank.

Which exchange rate do you use?

We use Reuters rates to ensure we are as up-to-date as possible. 

What payment methods can I use? 

Currently you can use your Mastercard and/or Visa card*, Rapid Transfer and Klarna as payment methods for Send Direct transfers. We are working hard to provide you with even more payment methods in the future.   

*US-issued cards cannot be used to fund Send Direct payments

How much can I send and how can I increase my transfer limits? 

There are some limits that depend on your funding method and transfer destination. You will be notified on-screen once you enter an amount that is higher or lower than the set limit.

Does the recipient need to have a Skrill account to receive money? 

No, a Skrill account is not required to receive money using our Send Direct service. You can send money to someone’s bank or mobile wallet using your card or bank account as a funding method. 

How long does it take to Send Direct? 

After receiving your funds, we aim to deliver your money instantly where possible, or within 24 working hours depending on the destination option and funding methods you have chosen as well as the day of the week that you send the money.   

Can I send money to myself? 

Yes, you just need to enter your name and your bank details, or your mobile number. The process is the same as sending to someone else.   

Why cannot I use my Skrill balance with Send Direct? 

Your Skrill balance needs to be kept separate for security and compliance reasons. Instead, use your credit/debit card or bank account to Send Direct.
What happens if my transfer via Send Direct fails? 

If your card or bank deposit fails, you will receive an automated email with the transaction details. 

If your deposit was successful, but for some reason the Send Direct fails, your payment will be refunded back to your card or bank account as fast as possible. Use your transaction history to see the status of every transfer you make in Skrill.

Can I set the amount that will be received? 

Yes, just tap on the They Receive field and you can set the receive amount. The amount you need to pay will then update automatically. 

Can I cancel my transfer? 

Transfers cannot be cancelled once we have received your payment and sent it to your chosen destination.
